Three Cosplay Ideas For Women Attending A Monster Themed Comic Con

Posted on: 7 March 2017

If you're planning on attending a monster themed comic con this upcoming Halloween, then you should get started planning your costume right now. Those really cool costumes that people wear are not simply thrown together at the last minute; they take months of planing to design and construct. So, it's never to early to start thinking about what you want to dress as. This way you will have the time to put together the costume and not have to throw together some store-brought item that won't stand out and is cookie cutter. So, here are some ideas to get your started.

Victorian Era Zombie

Zombies are ever popular at horror themed comic conventions, so if you want to stand out, consider a variation on the normal zombie. One really cool version is a Victorian era zombie. The contrast between the elegant Victorian era clothing, and the zombie makeup is a real standout. To get a sense of what these creatures look like you can watch a film like Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (which was a riff on the old Jane Austen novel). You can be very creative with the outfit, but the main component will be a Victorian era dress. You can then tatter it up, and add faux bloodstains to the material. Of course you should look up some tutorials for zombie face makeup as well. The dress can be found online from companies that do dress recreations. There is no reason to go out and buy a vintage dress (they will probably be really expensive), but if you find one at an auction for a steal, then that's awesome.

Burlesque Style Vampire

Vampires are ubiquitous at any horror convention. From the time of Bela Lugosi, up to the modern Kate Beckinsale portrayal, vampires are one of the coolest monsters in the world. Some ladies choose to go with the old, Hammer studios style vampires which are over-the-top sexy, but you don't have to go that risque. You can choose an outfit that is basically burlesque, but still modest. Something like dark slacks and a white blouse with a black cotton corset, accompanied by the pale makeup, red lips, and vampire teeth, would be stunning. If you want to go all out, then consider colored contact lenses. You can find these online and they will turn your eyes yellow, black, or red.

Comic Book Inspired Villain

If your taste runs more towards traditional comic books, then its perfectly fine to pick a comic book character, especially a villain. One great example is the character of Harley Quinn. She has been a favorite of comic book fans for years, and the movie portrayal by Margot Robbie has catapulted the character into the mainstream. The cool thing about this character is that you have a few ways of desiging your costume. You can go with the classic outfit that was used in the comics, which was a red and black catsuit with jester top, or you could opt for the more modern design (seen in later comics, plus in the Margo Robbie version in the film Suicide Squad) which compromises red and white shorts, fishnets, blue and pink dyed hair, and a baseball bat.
